My dad was a kind and gentle man of little words. I came to have a closer relationship with my dad as an adult when he was diagnosed with Parkinsons. I'm grateful to have had that closer time with my dad, even if it was for a short and difficult time. One of our favorite things to do was get a whole french loaf from the bakery and split it in half or go for an horchata paleta run 😋 I'm grateful he got to meet and spend time with my son, who inherited his beautiful eyes❤️ I love you, Papi. Until we meet again.

A good old drum solo highlights the dancers skills, precision, fluidity and control. I feel like I have successful drum solos when I relax rather than being forceful in my moves or try to follow through a choreo in my mind. Over time there set moves in certain songs and sections are always there but in between I like to leave a lot of room for improvisation.

Candle trays have increasingly grown in popularity among the dancers in Miami. The candle trays are used in restaurant shows, showgirl/theatrical belly dance shows and fusion styles while the shamadan (candelabra) is more associated with weddings and cultural entrances to celebrations.
Either or these two props are considered fire props, if using candles, and should also be respected accordingly. These props require grace, precision and control.
-Your props should be well balanced so that you do not need assistance of your hands to hold it while performing.
-The prop should be made by a professional that has knowledge and a reputation for a solid and safe props.
- You should also add your checks and balances to your props to make sure they are safe and suitable on you.

☝️That one night, I wanted to see what it felt like wearing a wig. Aside from the wig, I want to highlight the difference the location makes for your fire show. If you would ask me to perform fire on the beach, I usually decine. In an uncontrolled environment, I can not focus on dancing while trying to manuver my fire prop with the wind. I always recommend indoor, high ceilings, and well ventilated. When outdoors, I try to set myself somewhere that can block the wind. The worst thing is accepting an event where you feel insecure and not able to perform to your capacity because you were not informed or informed yourself about the weather/environment. Have options. Plan A,B,C. Also, clients appreciate your care in their safety and yours with an alternative. In all instances I had to shift to a plan B, they were very understanding and grateful.

I had to laugh at this one. Sometimes, I can't tell if the audience has a delayed reaction or if they are just not that impressed. Sometimes it's both! For this show, people were mostly on their phone instead of living on the moment, and I wasn't having it. 🫢 This post is for the audience: Performers feed off your energy. The more noise you make for me, the better the show.

Join me for a 3 hour intro to fire class on March 29th at the one and only @hgab_studios in Wynwood. Having a big enough, ventilated indoor space to practice fire is the most optimal. In a controlled space is perfect to get comfortable quick with your fire.

We will cover:
1. Fire safety
2. Basic fire concepts
3. A small flow routine, and
4. Live Burn

Anyone is welcome to join (this session won’t be focused on dancing but flowing) We will be using fire palms. It is important to order your props right away so they arrive on time. I do have a couple for rental for a small fee. I will provide fuel for you and safety items.

I shot this 6 months postpartum with the wonderful @dmitryzhitov_photo . I so wanted to be ready to be back to myself, my dance, my body, but the truth was I was still a long way from that. Sometimes, our expectations are based on unrealistic examples, or even if it is realistic, it's realistic for a small percentage. In either case, if I can share a little bit of unsolicited advice to new and expecting moms....take your damn time. It's not a race (except with yourself in your mind). Heal. And enjoy your baby, you blink, and they are no longer babies anymore. 😘❤️

Some people just instantly clique with you. From the moment I met @fernandcute we gravitated to each other. He was honest, mindful and shared big dreams like mine. After every show I would hang with him (his choice of music is always superb) and or we would spend hours on the phone reflecting and having the usual heart to heart convo. He taught me to contour of course and adopt a little more Drag and Queen attitude. In this video in particular he sensed I was pregnant with child and was one of the first to know of the news. I was super scared of the changes to come and what would happen to my dance career and as usual he had the right words to say to ease my uncertainty. I’m grateful to have documented this moment. When I started performing with fire it really stirred up the Bellydance’s community and you can imagine why. I know fire dancing has nothing to do with bellydance but as a creator I wanted to infuse fire in my shows. One rule I follow for myself and advise my students is never perform fire to an original middle eastern track, much less to one that has lyrics (which many never research before dancing to) I always use some remake that has a trap beat or similar to that nature. Never dim your creativity, just be mindful and respectful.

We will go though how to re-wick your specific fire prop. We will discuss different types of re-wicking and actually re-wick. Caring for your props is key to always having a reliable burn as well as save yourself from having to repurchase the same prop once the wicks are burned out.

Take advantage of my Fiercely of Fire Fire Prop Series that is catered to your needs and your pace. This series is 1 on 1 fire coaching with time and date flexibility.

Week 1: We cover safety protocols and your initial burn
Week 2: We meet 2x for tips and tricks and practice

Week 4: We meet for re-wicking and fire prop care

All sessions are for an hr and a half each. 9 hours total of dedicated fire instruction! This series a la cart is valued at $1k for 6.5 hrs of instruction.
